Grant Application
 In
addition to helping fund national breast cancer research, the Tidewater
Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure funds nonduplicative,
breast cancer screening, treatment, and educational projects for
the medically under served in Hampton Roads.
In order to ensure that we are funding
programs that address the specific, unmet
breast health needs of our community,
the Komen Tidewater Affiliate works with local
medical experts and community leaders to
conduct comprehensive community needs assessments.
These community profiles are then used
to establish local grant application and
review processes consistent with Susan G. Komen for the
Cure standards and mission.
Please note that Komen for the Cure is not a
direct service provider. We do not provide funds directly to individuals for screening or treatment, nor do we determine individual eligibility, make referrals, or influence the screening or treatment decisions of the organizations that we fund.
Major Grant Funds
The grants cycle is now closed. Please check back in the fall for information on when applications will be accepted for grants that will be funded in April 2009.
Small Grant Applications (up to $2,000)
The Affiliate does make small grants available
to eligible organizations. Small grants are intended to support some
of the “unexpected” costs
associated with a project (e.g., purchase of educational materials,
food costs for a presentation, survivor recognition, etc.). Small
Grants are NOT intended to support salary or services for an individual
(e.g., mammography, ultrasound), development of materials, etc.
Only funding requests that meet the following criteria will be considered for a small grant:
- Specific to breast health/breast cancer
- Relevant to the Komen Mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening, and treatment.
- Funding request is less than $2,000
- Willingness to acknowledge support of the Affiliate
- Report financial information and progress to the Affiliate
- Allow participation of an Affiliate representative where appropriate
- Not for a fundraising activity.
