Fundraising FAQs

Q: What is the cost to Register for the Race?
Note: You must register to receive a Race t-shirt. Your Registration fee helps to cover the cost of operations but personal giving and fundraising is what enables Komen to save lives here locally.  Teams can only register online.  Captains must register their team name and themselves before additional registrants can be added.  Each person should register themselves so they can read and acknowledge the event Waiver.  Parents can register children age 18 and under.  Online competitive team members are $27, competitive individuals are $32.  Online competitive individuals are $32 and recreational individuals are $25.  Kids are $10 each and VIP's are $100.  Sleep In participants are $30.  Each online registration has a $1.50 processing fee for each complete payment.  Mail in forms are avaliable for download and have an additional $5 for competitive and recreational participants.

Q. How far is the Race and what are my category options?
There is a 5K competitive run, that includes chip timing and bib.  There is also a 5K recreational Race that is self-timed.  Participants may choose to run or walk this event.  If you'd like something shorter or would like to use a stroller/baby jogger please register for the 1 Mile Family Fun Walk.  Kids age 3-10 can participate in the Kids for the Cure dash on the beach.  All registrants receive a t-shirt, access to national and local sponsors, and attendance at the free after-Race party.   Sleep In participants are people who would like to support the Race and be part of a team or individual but cannot be at the Race, these people still need to register and will receive a pillowcase via US Mail.   VIP registrants must choose to be competitive or recreational runners/walkers but in addition to their registration they also receive a reserved parking place very close to the Race start, a sign posted along the Race route with their name showing additional support, and a t-shirt.

Q: Does the Komen Race for the Cure® require fundraising?
You are not required to fundraise, but we do encourage all participants to fundraise above the entry fee. Just Imagine the IMPACT - If every Race participant raises $125, the average cost of a mammogram, in addition to their registration fee, we would bring in an additional $875,000 to support local screening, treatment and educational programs in our community!

Q: Does the money raised stay right here in our community?
Yes! Up to 75% of the net income from the Race, and other fundraising events, stays right here in our community to fund vital breast cancer health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs.  The remaining 25% is directly completely to breast cancer research and development.  No money raised locally is used to support our national headquarters.

Q. What are some ways I can fundraise for my team/my individual goal?

Q: Is my registration fee tax-deductible?

Q: How do I form a team?
